Beyond the Hedges: Investors buy house in October, sell it in May

Less than eight months after they bought it, Washington, D.C., real estate agents and part-time Palm Beachers Dana E. Landry and William F.X. Moody have sold Casa Pequena, a historic home at 8 Golfview Road, just north of the Everglades Golf Course.

The price recorded May 17 with the deed was about $5.64 million. That’s $1.14 million more than they paid for the seven-bedroom house — with nearly 7,000 square feet of living space, inside and out — last October in a deal handled on both sides by Sotheby’s International Realty.

The buyer in the off-the-market sale was Adria A. Roush, who, in April, sold the condominium she shared with her husband, Dr. George C. Roush, in historic Warden House at 200 N. Ocean Blvd. for a recorded $2.12 million. Samuel “Sandy” J. Bloomberg bought Unit No. 3, the Roushes’ condo, using a family trust in his name.

Corcoran Group agents Paulette Koch and Dana Koch acted for the Roushes in the Warden House sale. But Paulette Koch says they were not involved in the deal for the Golfview Road house, which was designed in 1922 by noted society architect Marion Syms Wyeth.

Landry said last fall that he and Moody had bought the historic home to live in for the season, having previously agreed to rent out their main residence at 3 Pelican Lane. They then carried out minor improvements at the property on Golfview Road.

In October, the town granted their request for a permit to demolish the house, but Landry said then that they had no intention of knocking it down. Instead, he explained, the permit might be a selling point when it came time to sell the property. After all, the house stands on a lot measuring nearly a half-acre in a prime Midtown location just south of Worth Avenue, facing the golf course across the street.

When Landry and Moody bought it last fall, Sothebys’ agents Todd F. Peter and Cristina Condon had been promoting the property in the local multiple listing service as a “rare opportunity” to acquire an “extra large lot.”

So is a new house on the horizon? Hard to say, as the new owner — a jewelry designer known professionally as Adria de Haume — could not be reached for comment.

Landry and Moody have invested in a number of Palm Beach properties. Their longtime agent Kim Raich of Sotheby’s acted on their behalf last fall in the Golfview Road deal.
