Nicely detailed Ridgeview Drive home priced at $3.84M

Jan Willinger moved into her home at 253 Ridgeview Drive nearly a year ago, but she’s already listed it for sale in a market where better-quality houses remain in high demand. She, in turn, is moving across the bridge to the West Palm Beach waterfront.

“I just closed on a double unit in Trump Tower. I bought it from my friend Dan Ponton; he moved, too,” Willinger explained, referring to the owner of Palm Beach’s Club Colette and Surfside Diner.

Willinger found the Ridgeview house after selling her home on Tangier Avenue, which exited the market faster than she thought it would, she said. She was downsizing at the time.

“The house on Ridgeview is just darling. I didn’t intend to do anything to it,” she said, noting that that it was built by Wittmann Building Corp., a longtime luxury homebuilder on the island. “Paul Wittmann built it for a couple in 2004, and it’s total quality.”

Agents Paulette Koch and Dana Koch of the Corcoran Group have set a price of $3.84 million for the three-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bath house. It has 4,513 square feet of living space, inside and out, and stands on a lot just south of the Palm Beach Country Club.

Because it was custom built — and the original owners didn’t scrimp — it has high-quality features throughout, Willinger said, including 13-foot ceilings, floors of wood and stone, and handsome moldings around doors and windows. It also has a well-appointed kitchen, imported from England.

The one-story residence, painted white with navy blue shutters, features Bermuda-style architectural details, including quoins and fairly linear lines, but with an arched entry and French doors.

One enters into a gallery that opens to the living room but also connects the east and west wings. On the east side are the master suite and three guest bedroom suites. In the west are the kitchen and family room, the dining room, an exercise room, a laundry area and two-car garage.

The paneled library, meanwhile, is just off the living room and has floor-to-ceiling bookcases and a coffered ceiling. French doors access the covered loggia, which views the patios, landscaped gardens and an in-ground tiled whirlpool spa with a fountain.

The living room’s fireplace has a marble mantelpiece. As in the library, French doors open onto the loggia. The dining room, which Willinger turned into a media room, has French doors that overlook a private garden.

Closets throughout are fitted with built-in cabinetry that is as finely detailed as furniture, Willinger said, and for a house its size, the master bedroom, the master marble bathroom and the kitchen are surprisingly spacious. In addition, the imported kitchen has stained-wood cabinetry with doors of old glass, professional-grade appliances and a center island with pull-up seating.

Although she initially thought she would only do “a little this, a little that,” she did end up making a number of changes. When she bought the house, columns were used as separators in the gallery, living room and dining room. She replaced them with walls with large entryways to make the rooms more distinct.

She repurposed the guest bedrooms as sitting rooms. She also repainted, installed new electric and air-conditioning, and asked landscape architect Don Skowron to redesign the gardens. She chose not to expand the house, but if the next owners want to do so, there are two air-conditioned attics that could be finished.
