$8.3M deal is largest Palm Beach condo sale since April 2014

Palm Beach this week saw its biggest-dollar condominium deal in more than a year with an $8.31 million sale of a double apartment in the lakefront Parc Regent.

New York real estate agent Danielle Joy Englebardt acted as successor trustee to the trust that bought the condo, according to the deed recorded Tuesday. It was sold by the estate of the late Rita Dee Hassenfeld, who died in January at 88.

Comprising units 203 and 204, the four-bedroom apartment at 184 Bradley Place has nearly 8,000 square feet of living space, inside and on its balconies. With a private-elevator entrance, the apartment slices east to west through the boutique building’s second residential floor.

The master suite, with its own living room and den, offers direct views of the Intracoastal Waterway, while the rooms on the east side face the town and have partial water views from their balconies. The apartment was sold with two poolside cabanas and four garage parking spaces.

Agents Jim McCann and Rosalind Clarke of the Corcoran Group handled both sides of the sale. They co-listed the apartment at just under $11 million in late January, and it was under contract by May 4, according to records in the Palm Beach Board of Realtors Multiple Listing Service.

McCann and Clarke also represented Englebardt’s trust in the deal. No further information about the trust was available.

New York connection

Englebardt sells high-end properties for Sotheby’s International Realty in New York City. Her professional biography on the agency’s website touts her work as on-site broker for the Barbizon/63 Condominium on East 63rd Street “where she sold out the majority of the building for the developer at record prices and continues to handle many re-sales and rentals.

”Englebardt comes from a real estate family, according to published reports. Her mother, Bonnie Englebardt, was married to the late Democratic U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey, who died in 2013.

Chilton Trust Co. LLC acted as personal representative of Hassenfeld’s estate, the deed shows. She had lived in the Parc Regent apartment since 1990, when she bought it with her late husband, Harold Irwin Hassenfeld. Her husband’s early business career included serving as president and chairman of Hassenfeld Brothers of Rhode Island, which eventually became toy manufacturer Hasbro Inc. He retired in 1988 as chairman of an affiliated company, Empire/Berol Corp., a pencil manufacturer in Nashville. He died in 2000.

The Hassenfelds’ prolific philanthropy included support for Brandeis University, Temple Emanu-El of Palm Beach and the American Cancer Society.

Higher sales

The apartment fetched the highest price paid for a Palm Beach condo since a $14 million sale recorded in late April 2014 in Il Lugano, 300 Seminole Ave., immediately north of the Parc Regent. Broker Lawrence Moens of Lawrence A. Moens Associates handled that off-market deal, in which retired investment banker Raymond L. Golden and his wife, Linda, sold Unit 5A and a guest suite to a limited liability company named TPTS LLC. The sale marked the second-highest condo deal ever on the island.

The island’s highest-dollar condo sale recorded in 2013, also in Il Lugano, when Lee and Laura Munder sold Penthouse 6A for $17.45 million to an entity linked to the Tisch family of New York City-based Loews Corp. McCann was the only agent who ever took credit for being involved in that deal.

In addition to those sales, several other Palm Beach condominiums have sold for prices recorded at more than the deal that just closed at the Parc Regent.
