Beyond the Hedges: House once owned by Ivana Trump sells for $3.6M

Robert G. Donnelley and his wife, Miranda, have paid a recorded $3.6 million for a five-bedroom house once owned by Ivana Trump at 190 Via Palma in the Estate Section.

The deed, recorded late last month, listed the seller as LAH Properties LLC, an entity linked to the Clinton Group, a New York City investment firm founded by George E. Hall. His wife is Lori Ann Hall, whose initials just happen to match those in the name of the Florida limited liability company that sold the house.

Retiree Robert Donnelley’s family business in Chicago was R.R. Donnelly & Sons, the media and communications company today known as R.R. Donnelley. The couple has long had a home in Lake Forest, Ill.

With 4,723 total square feet and elaborate formal English-style gardens, the midblock house sold at just under the $3.7-million listed price set by agent Harriet Brams of Douglas Elliman in Palm Beach. Her Elliman colleague Chris Cox represented the Donnelleys, who made an offer on the property just 11 days after it was listed in late November.

Neither Brams nor Cox would comment about details of the sale or those involved.

The Halls have a home in Rumson, N.J., and are active on the charity and horse-breeding circuits, having had several starters in Breeders’ Cup thoroughbred competitions.

The Via Palma house had been previously owned by agent Ted Gossett of  Sotheby’s International Realty, who oversaw the planting of its gardens. The Donnelleys once leased the house for a season when he owned it, Gossett reports. They have owned no other property in Palm Beach County under their names, according to public records.

Gossett and Eric Cedron had bought the house for a recorded $2.55 million in 2004 from Trump, and ownership transferred solely to Gossett in 2008, property records show. Gossett sold it to LAH Properties for about $3.98 million in December 2009.

Trump, meanwhile, had paid $1.85 million for it in 1999. Having divorced The Donald in 1990, she christened the Bermuda-style house with a witty sobriquet: Solo Mio (“Mine Alone”). But she reportedly never lived there, residing instead in the house she still owns facing the sea on Jungle Road.
