Regina and Herman Porten have sold the vintage house they completely overhauled in 2000 on a lot near the ocean at 132 Seminole Ave.

George and Maria “Mariana” Zoullas Kaufman of Palm Beach and New York paid $5.25 million, according to the deed recorded by the Palm Beach County Clerk’s office. The three-bedroom Tuscan-style house has a separate two-bedroom apartment for staff over the garage. In all, there are about 6,620 square feet of living space, inside and out.

Sotheby’s International Realty handled both sides of the deal. Agent Carole Ruhlman had listed it at $5.65 million, down from its original price of $6.5 million. Her colleague, Lore Smith, represented the buyers in the sale, which was recorded March 26 by the Palm Beach County Clerk’s office.

Herman Porten founded The Porten Cos., a homebuilder with offices in Delray Beach. He and his wife, Regina, a sculptor, completely overhauled the 1920 house, keeping its original footprint and exterior walls intact while, in essence, building an entirely new house from the ground up.

The Portens chose Jerusalem marble for some of the floors, and oak and pine for others, according to the sales listing in the Palm Beach Board of Realtors Multiple Listing Service. Other amenities include a wine-storage area, a generator, an elevator, and impact-resistant windows and doors.

The Kaufmans, meanwhile, have listed their two-bedroom apartment, No. 504, in the Palm Beach Biltmore for $1.295 million through Smith. It’s in the building’s prime “04” line, meaning that it doesn’t look out to another wing of the building but instead offers direct east and north views.

George Kaufman is chairman of the Kaufman Organization, which develops and manages commercial and residential buildings in the greater New York City area. He also owns and is president of Kaufman Astoria Studios, the city’s largest television-and-film production studio.
