Café Boulud to feature ‘rare’ Austrian selections at wine dinner

Posted On: 08-05-2018

When Café Boulud spotlights Austrian wines at its next monthly wine dinner on Thursday, one theme guests may glean is “small is beautiful.”

That’s according to Café Boulud’s sommelier Imre Papp, who notes that some small Austrian artisanal vineyards’ wines are “a rare specialty.”

Red, white and sweet varietals exemplifying Austria’s diverse viticulture will be paired with a four-course dinner.

Among the dinner’s courses by executive chef Rick Mace: spice-rubbed barramundi with fingerling potatoes and artichoke salad, and wood-roasted pheasant with grilled peaches and barbecue jus.

Pastry chef Julie Franceschini has planned a dessert of “exotic” crémeux Kaffir lime sable with passion fruit and tarragon sorbet.

The Aug. 9 wine dinner at Café Boulud, 301 Australian Ave., begins at 7 p.m. and is $105 a person. The event includes a pre-dinner reception at 6:45 p.m.
