Celedinas family homes in Palm Beach on the market Main house listed for $4.5 million; two properties together priced at $8.5 million

Posted On: 08-30-2018

Having moved into a new waterfront custom home they built on Island Drive, Kim and Ray Celedinas have vacated their family compound in Midtown. The latter has two 1920s-era houses, including 230 Chilean Ave., which they bought in 2004.

“It’s an older house with such charm, lots of windows and great lighting. It has Dade County pine floors — and we renovated all the bathrooms and kitchen,” says Kim, a real estate agent whose husband sold Celedinas Insurance Group, the business founded by his father, in 2016.

Affiliated with Illustrated Properties, Kim Celedinas has listed the four-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath house built in 1925. Comprising 3,518 square feet of living space, inside and out, the yellow-stucco house with white shutters and trim is priced at $4.599 million. The property measures a little less than a quarter-acre.

Built in 1928, No. 234 is almost a twin of the Celedinas family’s other house at 230. The four-bedroom home is being offered for sale for $3.999 million. The two properties are being marketed together at $8.598 million. Together, they total about a third of an acre.

About the design

For the renovations at 230 Chilean, the couple hired Smith and Moore Architects and Wittmann Building Corp. They commissioned landscape architectural firm Nievera Williams Design to redo the grounds, which have well-planned gardens, a putting green and a heated swimming pool.

“We’ve loved the house,” she says, noting the convenience of its Midtown address, two blocks north of Worth Avenue. “It’s in a great location in town.”

A driveway covered in Old Chicago brick greets visitors, who step through the front door into a foyer that runs the width of the front of the house. With banks of windows, the foyer is open to the south of the living room, which has a working fireplace. Farther south are the dining area and kitchen along with the family room and laundry.

Stairs from the living room ascend to the second floor and the master suite with a sitting room and bathroom, as well as two bedrooms that share a bathroom.

A guest suite over the detached two-car garage has a bedroom suite and kitchen.

Built-in cabinetry flanks the window seat in the bay of the dining area, which is separated from the kitchen by a counter with pull-up seating. The nearby family room is lined with windows and a built-in bar. Rather than Dade County pine floors, the rooms at the south end of the house have floors covered in the original tile.

In the kitchen are professional-grade appliances, limestone countertops and Waterworks tile backsplash.

Kim has turned one of the upstairs bedrooms into a closet for herself, but the shelving could easily be removed to reveal bead-board wainscoting, she explains. The master bathroom features double sinks, a marble countertop and tile by Waterworks in the walk-in shower.

“We call the living area off the master bedroom the reading room. It was probably once an open porch, and it has a wood floor, beamed ceiling and built-in bookcases,” Kim says.

Next door

The house is next door to a similar one Kim and Ray Celedinas bought in 2010 at 234 Chilean Avenue, which they are also offering for sale. At one time, they used the entire complex for their family, and as such, they’ve opened up the backyard between the two properties.

No. 234 is almost a twin of the other house. With 2,432 total square feet, the house stands on a smaller lot and has a plunge pool rather than a full-size pool.

“It’s been a happy home for us,” Kim says. “It was a big decision for us to sell. We thought we’d give the houses to our daughters, but Taylor lives in New York City and Payton is in Chicago, and I don’t see them moving back here.”
