Couple to part with Estate Section home they bought just three years ago

New Yorkers Raphael and Miriam Yakoby bought their Estate Section home just north of The Mar-a-Lago Club with the best intentions three years ago.

Residents of Old Westbury, Long Island, they had planned to use the house at 137 Woodbridge Road — named Casa Bella — for frequent vacation getaways. But life, as they say, intervened.

Because they have three school-aged children under 10 years old, the family has ended up visiting only one month a year, explained Raphael Yakoby. Although having a home in Palm Beach didn’t prove practical, they say they hope to buy again on the island, once they are empty nesters.

Still, they will take with them nice memories of the house, which was built by Ecclestone Signature Homes in 2002. The Yakobys hired builder Tim Givens to renovate it to their specifications and asked Safavieh Home Furnishings of Long Island to help them decorate.

“It’s a beautiful Spanish Mediterranean house, a magnificent piece of property,” Raphael said. “We really enjoyed our family room and back patio next to the pool. We loved having barbecues and just spending time together.”

They have listed the six-bedroom, seven-and-a-half-bath home — with 9,220 square feet of living space, inside and out — with real estate agent Maureen Woodward of Brown Harris Stevens. Priced at $9.9 million, the house also can be acquired furnished for $10.9 million.

The Yakobys’ renovation projects included a new kitchen and new lighting inside and out, linked to a Smart Home technology system.

Outside, the couple revised the landscaping plan and added a new pool, which is lined with a 1.6 million glass tiles installed in an intricate geometric rug-like design. The home’s exterior is highlighted by front and rear courtyards with lush plantings and fountains.

The front door opens into a foyer, where Jerusalem limestone floors are accented by a mosaic inset. With its hand-painted ceiling, the foyer leads to a broad hallway-and-gallery, where a bank of French doors opens to the back courtyard.

A paneled library and the living room are positioned to the east. The living room’s ceiling is decorated with molding and the fireplace has a carved stone mantel piece.

To the west of the foyer is a two-story stair hall with an intricate coffered ceiling. In this area are the elevator and a wine room with a ceiling decorated in gold leaf, as well as the dining room.

A hallway leading north from the stair hall brings one to the kitchen, the breakfast room, the family room, a first-floor bedroom suite, a laundry area and the entrance to the air-conditioned, three-car garage.

Their updated kitchen features a center-island floor plan and new professional-grade appliances. Just off of the kitchen is a large butler’s pantry equipped with additional appliances.

The breakfast room, the family room and a separate guest studio all open to an outdoor loggia and the pool area. A summer kitchen facilitates outdoor entertaining.

Upstairs are three guest-bedroom suites, each with handsomely tiled bathrooms. Two of the bedrooms have Juliet-style balconies that overlook the rear courtyard. The master suite takes up the entire north wing and includes a gym, two bathrooms, closets with custom built-in fixtures, a dressing room, and a “breakfast bar” for coffee and snacks

The suite has an oak floor, a tray ceiling and French doors that open to an expansive private balcony.

Among the amenities the Yakobys have most enjoyed is one for which they can thank town officials, who negotiated a deal in which Donald Trump waived the membership fee at his Mar-a-Lago Club for Woodbridge Road residents.

“Since Mar-a-Lago membership comes with the house, it was incredibly convenient for us,” Raphael said. “We loved the club’s dining experience, the beach access, the spa; we just walked across the street.”
