Former CEO of Rockefeller financial firm pays $9 million for Palm Beach house

Posted On: 09-04-2018

The former CEO of asset management firm Rockefeller & Co. and his wife are the buyers of a Palm Beach house that has changed hands for nearly $9 million, according to the deed recorded Friday.

Reuben Jeffery III and wife Robin paid a recorded $8.98 million for the Mediterranean-style house and its guest apartment at 242 Dunbar Road, the deed shows.

n addition to his former role as president and CEO of Rockefeller & Co. and Rockefeller Financial Services, Reuben Jeffery served as under secretary of state for economic, business and agricultural affairs during President George W. Bush’s administration.

The Jefferys have owned a Palm Beach condominium in the Leverett House at 120 Sunset Ave. since 2015, property records show. That apartment, which they bought for a recorded $2.664 million, is listed as their mailing address on last week’s deed.

The house and its guest house were sold by Etsuko Osawa Morris and her husband, John H. Morris Jr., who acted as trustees of a living trust in his name, the deed shows. The Morrises bought the five-bedroom house, built in 1930, for $2.52 million in 1994, according to property records.

The Morrises, who have a home on Park Avenue in New York City, are noted collectors of Japanese art and artifacts. An exhibit of Japanese arms and armor from their collection, currently on view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, also includes items donated to the museum by the couple over the past 17 years.

Broker Christian J. Angle of Christian Angle Real Estate had the house — with 5,326 square feet of living space, inside and out — listed at just under $11 million when it sold. That was down from its original price of $11.9 million in October.

The house stands on a lot of more than a half-acre on the near North End, eight blocks north of Royal Poinciana Way.

The grounds feature formal gardens with 20 Royal Palm trees, fountains, a 40-foot-long swimming pool and an outdoor loggia.

Angle’s listing described the property as ready for a buyer to “move in, remodel or build new.”

Agent Suzanne Frisbie of the Corcoran Group handled the buyers’ side of the sale, according to the Palm Beach Board of Realtors Multiple Listing Service.

Rockefeller Financial Services, the parent company of Rockefeller & Co., became Rockefeller Capital Management in March, when Gregory J. Fleming assumed roles as president and CEO, according to a statement released by the company.

Frisbie and Angle couldn’t be immediately reached for comment.
