Lakeside house of Jordanian princess under contract

With summer on the horizon, the real estate scene on the island is heating up: Another sizable house in Palm Beach has landed under contract, this one a North End property facing the Lake Worth Lagoon at 1320 N. Lake Way.

And it comes with a royal connection, to boot.

Agent Shelly Newman of Illustrated Properties has the eight-bedroom house priced at just under $18 million, down about $500,000 from when she listed it in December. Three houses south of the Sailfish Club, the residence has about 10,320 square feet of living space, inside and out.

It’s the home of a Jordanian princess, Alia Bint Al-Hussein, and her husband, Mohammed Al-Saleh, who control the limited liability company that owns it — Aqua Development North Lake LLC. She is the half-sister of King Abdullah II of Jordan. The sellers bought it for $11 million about seven years ago and have had it on the market previously.

Built in 2002, the Mediterranean-style house was designed by Smith and Moore Architects. It features a courtyard entry, a four-car garage and a deep-water dock, along with a guesthouse and two cabanas by the 60-foot lap pool. The land measures more than a half-acre with about 102 feet of waterfront.

The house went under contract May 17, according to Newman’s listing in the Palm Beach Board of Realtors Multiple Listing Service. Newman declined to comment about her clients or the sale. So no word on the buyer, the amount that will change hands or the closing date.

The change in status brought to four the number of so-called “pending” sales of properties in Palm Beach listed at $16.5 million or above, a recent search showed.

Among those is another lakefront house on the North End — 430 N. Lake Way, listed at $17.5 million. Property records show the 1967 house has about 5,550 square feet, but agent Jim McCann of the Corcoran Group marketed it solely for its land value. The property measures three-quarters of an acre — with 115 feet of waterfront — and is owned by a family trust in the name of the late Ann A. Mergens, who died in December. McCann changed the MLS status to “pending” late last month after fielding several strong offers, he said Wednesday.
