North End Billionaires Row home gets approval for landscaping plan

A shadier lawn tipped the scales in favor of a revised landscaping plan just approved by the town for a new 25,500-square-foot French-style house that will face the ocean at 615 N. County Road in Palm Beach.

The Architectural Commission in September had given a thumbs-up to revised plans for the house that architect Jeffery Smith of Smith Architectural Group designed for his clients, investment manager Lewis “Lew” Sanders and wife Alice.

But commissioners weren’t happy with the sparse landscaping plan and asked for more trees and a softer look for the hardscape. When Matt Jackman of Nievera Williams Landscape Architecture presented the revisions Oct. 25, the commission unanimously voiced approval.

The 3.45-acre lot with 300 feet of beachfront is on the North End’s Billionaires Row, next door to radio shock-jock Howard Stern’s home and just down the street from property once owned by President Donald Trump . The Lewises paid $24.87 million for the property in 2005, courthouse records show, and knocked down a house there. But they never built anything on the property.
