On the Market: House in Palm Beach’s Regents Park listed at just under $13 million

When Eddy Louis and his wife, the late Vera Lukin Louis, became a couple more than 20 years ago, Eddy moved into her Clarence Mack-designed Regency-style 1959-era home at 500 Regents Park.

Just south of the Southern Boulevard roundabout, Regents Park was granted historic-district status last year, meaning the houses’ facades can’t be altered without approval of the Landmarks Preservation Commission. The enclave comprises five Regency-style homes designed by Mack, with Louis’ home — comprising 7,326 square feet of living space, inside and out — overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway at the end of the cul-de-sac.

Louis, who also has residences in Thailand and China, has enjoyed his time in the house, which has six bedrooms, five bathrooms and two half-baths. And although he has listed his home for sale, he will certainly miss it, he says.

“I might regret selling it. It’s in one of Palm Beach’s best locations, has a gorgeous view and also has what I like to call my private beach,” he says, referring to the neighborhood’s ocean access across South Ocean Boulevard.

“And in my backyard, I have the Intracoastal, where I’ve caught fish. I also have an organic garden, grow fruit and have all kinds of beautiful flowers.”

J. Isaias Franco and Brandon Tate, agents with Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate, have the property priced at $12.95 million. Its classic Palm Beach Regency-style facade features urns at its roofline, shutters at the window and a central portico with columns and a triangular pediment, one of Mack’s architectural signatures. The house is symmetrically arranged: On either side of the entry courtyard are garages where the pediment motif is repeated.

To the south of the foyer and gallery are the master suite, guest suite and library, while on the north side are a guest suite, kitchen and formal dining room. Directly west are the living room and enclosed loggia. An upstairs apartment comprises two bedrooms, bathroom, living area and kitchen.

Floors in the foyer and gallery are covered in marble, and features include wainscoting. decorative molding and detailed millwork, features that are found throughout the house. The foyer also is graced by archways, and there’s a circular skylight in the gallery.

The living room and loggia function as one large room, separated by a series of columns. The living area has a marble fireplace flanked by built-in bookcases and cabinetry, and the loggia has glass sliding doors that open to a covered patio facing the lake. The dining room also has sliding glass doors that open to the pool, patio and gardens.

Floors are wood in the main areas and carpeted in the bedrooms. There are built-in cabinets in the library and, purely for decoration, a nonfunctional marble fireplace in one of the guest bedroom suites. Bathrooms are appointed in marble.

The kitchen features cream cabinetry, a white-tile floor, new white appliances and granite countertops.

“I’ve remodeled the house twice, and redid the kitchen, electrical (and) plumbing (systems), and put on a new roof. In the back, the large windows have electric shutters to protect against hurricanes,” Louis says. “I’ve been taking care of the house for years and I know every nook and cranny. In addition to the most gorgeous views, I enjoy nice trade winds all the time. Everyone envies me, my house and its location.”
