Palm Beach homes: Re-done house in historic enclave sells for $7.1 million

Posted On: 03-06-2019

An insurance executive has paid a recorded $7.1 million for a recently renovated Palm Beach Regency-style house immediately south of President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach.

Peter J. Worth bought the house at 100 Regents Park Road from Lynda Lee Murry and her husband, former Calvin Klein CEO Paul Thomas Murry, according to the deed recorded this week.

Built in 1959, the six-bedroom house has 6,297 square feet of living space, inside and out. It stands on a half-acre lot just west of South Ocean Boulevard.

Worth is chairman and CEO of American Benefits Consulting LLC, according to Bloomberg.com. The company’s address on Park Avenue in New York City is listed as his mailing address on Tuesday’s deed. He also owns a house in Old Marsh Golf Club in unincorporated Palm Beach County, property records show.

The Regents Park house is one of five in the neighborhood on the stretch of the coastal road known as Billionaires Row. The enclave is one of the few in town designated a historical district, which protects the street-side exteriors of all the houses from significant alteration.

All the residences were designed by the late developer Clarence Mack, who grouped them around an oval-shaped landscaped median. They feature the signature architectural elements of the Palm Beach Regency style, including flat roofs and classical details such as columns, triangular pediments and rooftop urns.

The Murrys bought the house in 2011 for a recorded $4.25 million and then carried out an extensive renovation project, records show. The project included refurbishing original wood floors, combining three rooms to create a new kitchen, redoing the bathrooms, rebuilding the family room and reworking the layout of the staff quarters upstairs to become guest suites.

Douglas Elliman Real Estate handled both sides of this week’s sale. Agent Chris Leavitt represented Worth. Neither could be reached for comment.

Agent Alison Newton had the house listed at just under $8 million when it sold. The property was on the market for much of last year until it took a hiatus from the Palm Beach Board of Realtors Multiple Listing Service, records show. It re-entered the MLS in mid-January.

Newton and the Murrys declined to comment. But in a Daily News article last year about the house, Lynda Murry mentioned that the house was laid out “so nicely. It’s light, airy and all on one level; when you walk in, you can see all the way through the house to the pool.”

In addition to their renovation, the Murrys worked with a neighbor, former U.S. Ambassador Mary Ourisman, to pay for a landscaping project for the neighborhood’s median. It was carried out by Nievera Wiliams Design, the same firm that landscaped the house the Murrys just sold.

MLS shows one other house for sale on Regents Park Road — No. 500, a six-bedroom lakefront house with 7,323 total square feet. Agent David J. Ferreira of Donohue Real Estate has it listed, partially furnished, at $19.5 million.
