Palm Beach lakefront home approved for demolition under contract

Posted On: 09-28-2017

Palm Beacher Nancy Z. Lane’s lakefront home at 726 Hi-Mount Road is under contract at a price tag of $26.6 million. But the North End house’s days are likely numbered.

You might recall that the Architectural Commission last month gave its approval to demolish the 1938 house, which stands on one of the highest points in Palm Beach. And broker Lawrence Moens of Lawrence A. Moens Associates last week updated his listing in the Palm Beach Board of Realtors Multiple Listing Service to identify a sale as “pending.”

No word yet on the buyer, the amount to change hands or when the sale will close.

And speaking of pending sales — Hurricane Irma’s wind-whip of Palm Beach didn’t deter a couple of other would-be buyers from putting hard money down on notable properties in town.

Five days after Irma made landfall Sept. 10 on the west side of the state, agent Jim McCann of the Corcoran Group changed the MLS status of a five-bedroom oceanfront house in the Estate Section to reflect a pending sale. Priced at $10.8 million, Bob and Connie Dwyer’s 1951 house at 880 S. Ocean Blvd. has been on and off the market for a couple of years. It comes with a private 6,600-square-foot beach parcel.

And early last week, agent Shirley Wyner of The Fite Group declared a pending sale for her MLS listing at 1 Golfview Road, a four-bedroom house built in 2001 at the intersection of Hammon Avenue. Wyner has had it priced at $5.975 million since March. The 5,320-square-foot house is owned through a trust in the name of Cecile Draime, according to property records.

Those two houses join another listing that has been marked pending in MLS since the tail end of August at 200 Eden Road on the North End. Agent Carole Hogan of Brown Harris Stevens is marketing the four-bedroom house with a total of 7,215 square feet at $8.75 million. Seller Ingrid A. Johnson in March 2014 paid $6.16 million for the house, which was developed on speculation just as the Great Recession was drawing to a close.
