A New York-based restaurant is the first tenant to confirm a spot in the Royal Poinciana Plaza, which is currently being renovated.

Sant Ambroeus announced Friday its intent to open a location in Palm Beach this fall. It would be the first location outside of New York for the Milanese restaurant. The brand did not specify an address but said it would be taking over a small part of the old Del Frisco Grille space. Del Frisco’s shut down in November.

The landmarked Royal Poinciana Plaza, managed by Up Markets, currently is undergoing restoration “to return the property to its original mid-century glamour.” Sant Ambroeus is the first partner to be announced“in what promises to be one of the most sought after international shopping destinations,” according to the news release.

“Palm Beach is an ideal destination for Sant Ambroeus, where we are thrilled to bring our tradition of Italian excellence,” Gherardo Guarducci, a partner of SA Hospitality Group, said in the release. “Up Markets’ vision for the Royal [Poinciana Plaza] combined with the strong architectural heritage of the property offered a unique opportunity that was perfectly in-line with our commitment to art, style and design.”

The Palm Beach location, to be designed by Robert McKinley, will include a coffee bar, cafe and gelateria, the press release said.

“Our goal is to give the people of Palm Beach what they want and since the day we took control of the plaza, the single most requested tenant has been Sant Ambroeus. Dimitri [Pauli] and Gherardo are truly exceptional operators. Everything that they do is first rate - pasta, pastries, gelato, coffee, service, ambience and so much more,” Samantha David, head of Up Markets, said in the release. “The island deserves best in class and — pending Town Council approval — it will be a privilege to bring in a restaurant so worthy of its Palm Beach address.”

Permit paperwork was filed today and representatives will be heard before the Town Council in March, according to the restaurant.
